Five Blocks Away – The Movie

Recently, I learned about an exciting, new film that is being produced by a Catholic parish in Georgia.  The movie is called Five Blocks Away, and after meeting their goal in a recent KickStarter campaign, the team is ready to take the next step.

I learned about the film from a friend and coworker, the Red Ruby Slippers blogger herself – Dorothy Polchinski.  She is one of the Executive Producers of the film.

What is the movie about?  Taken directly from the Five Blocks Away site:

“Anthony Seton lives the modern definition of the perfect life. Young and handsome, with a successful job and an active social scene, everything that today’s society covets seems well within his grasp. But when a series of circumstances challenges the foundations of that world, he realizes that life as defined by secular truths may not be much of a life at all—and that the real answer is a lot closer than he thinks.”

There are a lot of individuals and organizations that are finding ways to use technology and new media to spread the faith, but this is the first time I’ve seen a Catholic parish come together for such a large task.

This is not the first time that a church has produced a movie, though.  The filmmakers behind Courageous and Fireproof (two of my favorite movies) came from a collective effort at Sherwood Baptist Church.  The team hopes to follow their example, but with a Catholic perspective.

Besides Polchinski, the team from St. Catherine of Siena Church in Kennesaw, Georgia is led by Kevis Antonio, the Director and Producer of the film, and another Executive Producer, Janice Givens.

The project is gaining traction, and they hope to release the film in 2014.  There are still perks available for anyone who wants to donate, and a few options will even get your name in the credits!  (I think I might enjoy seeing my name slowly roll across the silver screen.)
