Dayton Abortion Business Operating Illegally, Violating Ohio Admitting Privileges Law

The Women’s Med Center, 1401 E. Stroop Rd., Dayton, OH is the third area abortion facility operating outside the law–without a license; without a written transfer agreement with an area hospital required of all ambulatory surgical facilities to cover patient emergencies; and without a variance (exception) to cover emergencies.

The Women’s Med Center (Lebanon Road Surgery Center) in Sharonville, Ohio and Cincinnati’s Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio are also operating outside the law.

ohiologo2bLike the Sharonville Women’s Med Center, late-term abortionist Martin Haskell owns the Dayton Women’s Med Center. Unable to obtain a transfer agreement from any area hospital, this Dayton abortion center’s most recent variance request submitted to the Ohio Department of Health November 2013 identifies Wright State Physicians Women’s Healthcare group as backup to cover patient emergencies at Miami Valley Hospital.

According to the variance request, Wright State Physicians Women’s Healthcare group is the “faculty department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.” The group has a resident training program, which the variance says provides a supervisory physician continuously at Miami Valley Hospital.

Alan Marco, President & CEO of Wright State Physicians signed the backup agreement for Dayton Women’s Med Center, along with representative physician Sheela Barhan and abortionist Martin Haskell.

A champion of the now nationally banned partial-birth late term abortion procedure, Martin Haskell’s facilities still sell late term abortions using other methods. Babies up to 24 weeks gestation are aborted at the Dayton and Cincinnati (Sharonville) Women’s Med Center businesses.

The Ohio Department of Health recently denied Martin Haskell’s Women’s Med Center in Sharonville, Ohio a license and issued an order to close. Martin Haskell has appealed the order, and this abortion business remains open without a license, written transfer agreement, or variance after the judge for the case granted a stay.

Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio in Cincinnati is operating without a license, is unable to obtain the required written transfer agreement from any area hospital, and is seeking a variance from the Ohio Department of Health. PPSWO’s variance request names David Schwartz, Michael Draznik, and Joseph Caligaris with privileges at The Christ Hospital for backup coverage.

Why are these three abortion-providing ambulatory surgical facilities able to remain open outside the law, at the risk of women’s health and safety, unlike any other ASF in the state?
