Today’s Gospel: Luke 24:13-35

It’s no coincidence that it was at the moment of the blessing and breaking of the bread that Cleopas and the other disciple finally recognized Jesus after spending all day with Him. Even though Christ explained that the fulfillments of the prophesies had all come to pass through the dying and resurrection of Christ, it wasn’t until the exact moment of the consecration that understanding suddenly dawned on the disciples and everything clicked.

In the same way, we should understand that the pinnacle of Christ’s redemption is experienced through the Eucharist. What’s the point of knowing that Christ came to triumph over death to give us eternal life if we aren’t going to partake of the gift? Our hearts should be burning within us!

Ponder:

Do I take advantage of the gift of the Eucharist or make a holy hour at adoration?

Pray:

Lord, help us never to forget you in the Eucharist.
