Breastfeeding and Time Magazine

USA today has a great article on breastfeeding. Certainly, you may be asking yourself, what in the world makes Ron an authority on this subject. I answer, I have no expertise in this area, none, whatsoever. However, it seems that USA today found some information that would indicate Breastfeeding is normal for a three year old. So, I thought I would share it with you and comment on something related.There has been some backlash about this cover, which I do not happen to find offensive, sexual, or perverted at all. No offense, but, breastfeeding is not perverted. If I had to guess there might be a couple of reasons someone would find this offensive. The culture is oversexed and under educated. A woman's breast, which seems to be hanging out of every possible outfit a woman can put together, cannot serve some legitimate purpose other than to pleasure men, or at least this seems to be the common train of thought. Wait, you mean, a woman's breast actually serves a natural purpose? Yes, they do. You are looking at it right now. Perhaps the age of the child offends you? How about these two gems from the medical experts?"The World Health Organization recommends breast-feeding "up to two years of age or beyond." TheAmerican Academy of Pediatrics recommends that "babies should continue to breast-feed for a year and for as long as is mutually desired by the mother and baby."Read the article it is short but well worth the read. Maybe, if we worried more about our children, their health, their purity, and our bond with them, and less about cultural norms, we would have more well adjusted well ordered children. Just a thought. I can't help but think that the mentality that brought you abortion on demand or the destruction of life if it isn't convenient, isn't the same voice that is appalled by a child nursing.
