Pro-Abortion Group’s Own Poll Finds Just 23% of Americans Say Abortion’s Morally Okay

LifeNews recently profiled how the Planned Parenthood abortion business is running away from the term “pro-choice” because it is losing the abortion debate. Now, here is more evidence that the pro-abortion side is flailing and how it is attempting to reinvent itself again to somehow make the destruction of unborn babies in abortion palatable to the American public.

The pro-abortion group NARAL released a new poll today. The pro-abortion group had a chance to hire its own pollster and to formulate the questions in a way that would distort the results in a skewed pro-abortion direction.

prolifestudents35No matter how hard NARAL tried, its own polling data makes it clear Americans are not comfortable with the current state of abortion on demand. Only 23 percent of those polled told NARAL that they think abortion is morally okay.

“In a poll that NARAL Pro-Choice America plans to release Monday, more than one in five voters – 23 percent – said they believe abortion is morally acceptable and should be legal,” according to a Politico write-up on the survey.

NARAL’s poll was so bad for the pro-abortion group that it founds 45 percent of Americans are personally opposed to abortion and another quarter of respondents said abortion should be illegal — making it so approximately 70 percent of Americans generally dislike abortions.

NARAL was apparently so under-confident about the results of the survey that it didn’t ask perhaps the most important question that could be asked about where people truly stand on abortion. As Politico notes, “The poll did not ask about restricting the procedure based on the stage of a pregnancy or other factors.”

Why is that important? It’s because most polling data on Americans’ views on when abortion should be legal or illegal finds about 55 percent of Americans say most or all abortions should be illegal.

A June 2014 poll conducted by The Polling Company revealed that 58% of the American people believe that abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances. The circumstances in which most people believe abortion should be available are in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother, according to the late June survey.

The Polling Company found that 75% of people support pain-capable bills that protect 20-week or older unborn children from abortion, except in cases of rape, incest or life of the mother.

A March 2014 CNN poll confirms what prior CNN polls and others have consistently shown in recent years — that a majority of Americans want all or most all abortions made illegal.

The CNN/ORC International survey also indicates that a majority opposes taxpayer money being used to pay for abortions.

According to the CNN survey, 20% say abortion should always be illegal and 38% say most abortions should be illegal — making it so 58 percent of Americans oppose all or virtually all abortions. Just 27% of Americans side with Planned Parenthood and President Barack Obama in saying abortions should always be legal. Another 13 percent say abortion should be legal in most cases, making it so only 40 percent of Americans generally favor legalized abortion in most instances.

A 2011 CNN national poll of Americans showed 62% of Americans want all or most abortions made illegal.  In April 2009, CNN showed Americans wanted to prohibit most or all abortions by a 64-34 percentage point margin. The margin was 63-36% in November 2008, 61%-37% in June 2008, 62-36% in October 2007, and 64-34 percent in September 2006.
