After Giving Birth, Woman Throws Newborn Baby in Trash to “Solve Her Problems”

A woman in Utah apparently didn’t know she was pregnant and, upon giving birth, threw her newborn baby in the trash — saying doing so would “solve her problems.” The baby is now clinging to life.

Alicia Marie Englert, 24, gave birth to the baby on Sunday or Monday and the baby received no medical care

aliciaenglertShe was found when neighbors initially thought the baby’s cries coming from their trash bin was a cat meowing. A woman heard what she thought was a kitten meowing in the trash bin in the Salt Lake City suburb of Kearns at around 7 a.m. Tuesday and discovered the newborn, Unified Police Detective Jared Richardson said.

The newborn girl was airlifted to a hospital in Salt Lake City, where she is now on a ventilator and fighting for her life.

The child’s aunt said her sister suffers from learning disabilities and does not think like a 24-year-old .

Here’s more on this tragic story:

Investigators say they learned through the investigation that Englert threw the baby into the trash can. A Probable Cause statement filed by police stated “the birth mother was afraid to tell her parents about her pregnancy. She said she discarded the baby in hopes that it would die and solve her problems.”

The baby is being treated at the hospital and is in protective custody pending further investigation.

The baby is still in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.
