I’ll Do Better Tomorrow, I Promise is like reading a day in my life. My son often does things “wrong” when he is just trying to help. I respond with frustration as he does things differently than I would. At the end of the day, I feel bad about my actions, not what he did. The boy in Maurine Reynolds Adamek’s book reminds me so much of my son, Linus. He is just trying to help, but he ends up messing up. At the end of the day, we, the parents, feel like we did something wrong.

Our reactions to what our children do are much more hurtful then we sometimes realize. They do feel bad in their own way when we get angry with them. We hurt our Father in Heaven when we sin, because we are not perfect either.

Children and their love help us as parents to see our own faults through their eyes as well as God’s. Their souls are so much closer to God. As we grow older, it gets harder to feel God as other things get in the way. They are just trying to help us and do the best they can. If we let them, they will help us grow closer to God as we love them with all that we are.

I’ll Do Better Tomorrow, I Promise is a touching book to read to your children. The illustrations are adorable as well. The only question is, who will get more out of the story: the parent or the child?
