Sermon for Pentecost XV –The Meaning of Mercy
From the 7th verse of the 5th chapter
of the Gospel according to St. Matthew:
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”
Today, in addition to being the 15th Sunday after
Pentecost is the feast of St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist.
St. Matthew is known as the Evangelist to the Jews, for it is Matthew,
the Jewish tax
