Texas Pro-Life Group Wants to Completely De-Fund Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz
On Monday a Texas pro-abortion publication lamented about the recent news that the Texas Alliance for Life plans to take away more money from Planned Parenthood in the 2015 legislative session. Supposedly the abortion business is upset because the funding the pro-life group wants to do away with goes toward cancer screenings and birth control.
Yvonne Gutierrez, the executive director of Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, told Texas Public Radio (KWBU) that a bill taking money from the abortion giant could limit women’s access to preventative medicine.
Gutierrez said, “And that screening process is so needed. So not every single [Planned Parenthood] provider is exactly an oncologist, but having this screening process in place is so critical for detecting cancer early.” Gutierrez also said that some Planned Parenthood facilities provide treatment for some earlier stages of cancer.
However, Planned Parenthood does not treat early stages of cancer; in fact they don’t even perform mammograms (or breast biopsies or ultrasounds) for patients concerned about breast cancer.
The executive director of Texas Alliance for Life, Joe Pojman, said “We think those moneys should go to organizations that truly help women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Planned Parenthood can do nothing for a woman who is diagnosed with cancer in the course of treatment.”

As LifeNews previously reported, Komen for the Cure proved that Planned Parenthood doesn’t perform mammograms and made national headlines when it decided to stop providing grants to the organization. A representative from Komen said, “When a mammogram is indicated, a patient is often referred to a local program, such as the state’s breast and cervical cancer program. In other cases, the Komen Affiliate’s grant to Planned Parenthood may include funds to pay for mammograms outright. When this happens, a local provider performs the mammogram, and is then reimbursed by Planned Parenthood using the Komen grant funds.”
But unfortunately, a few days after the Breast Cancer Foundation made their announcement, they gave in to bullying tactics from Planned Parenthood and changed course.
Additionally, 53 medical studies show that abortion increases breast cancer; one even stating that abortion increases the risk by 44%. Furthermore, in 2012 alone the abortion giant raked in $560.6 million dollars in taxpayer funding, which averages out to $1.5 million every day. Their breast cancer screening services dropped by 14% and their prenatal services by 32%. For every one-adoption referral that Planned Parenthood facilitated, they performed 149 abortions.
Taking all that into consideration, it is totally understandable that a reputable pro-life, pro-woman organization like the Texas Alliance for Life would want to completely defund Planned Parenthood.
