58% of Millennials Believe Abortion is Morally Wrong

I think it’s fair to say that the pro-abortion movement in our country has seen better days. In a recent article in The Washington Times titled, Millennials Bucking Trent on Abortion Approval, author Cheryl Wetzstein writes, “A hard-fought battle is being waged for the allegiance of young Americans on abortion, and pro-life leaders see fresh signs of hope that Roe v. Wade won’t survive the millennial generation.”

marchforlife36The reason for the new hope among pro-life advocates is the growing amount of young people who are morally opposed to abortion. According to a new Marist poll, 58% of young people believe that abortion is morally wrong, and 64% of Americans believe abortion rates are higher than they should be.

On Friday, Princeton University law professor Robert P. George told about 2,000 attendees at the annual Students for Life of America (SFLA) conference that decades ago there seemed to be no hope for the pro-life movement; however, now because of some persistent pro-life leaders and development of technologies that show “the reality of the beautiful human life of the child in the womb, “the tide is turning toward pro-life.” He added, “I see the future, and you are it.”

Last week, Kristan Hawkins, the President of SFLA, wrote in a letter to student leaders that abortion advocates are in a state of panic because they are losing with young people. She writes, “The abortion industry is in a state of panic. They are at a complete loss on how to reach you – the younger generation who is more intensely passionate about ending abortion than your peers are about supporting it and who believe abortion is morally wrong.”

Hawkins continued, “The trouble is that you have grown up with the incredible advantage of technology. You’ve seen your brothers, sisters, and maybe even your own children’s fingers and toes and heard their heartbeat during an ultrasound. It’s undeniable that the child in the womb is a child, a living human being, and that an abortion takes the life of that child. The trouble is that you have grown up knowing the scientific evidence of when life begins and that abortion ends that life. The trouble is that you don’t believe the spin on abortion since you know it’s wrong because that little life has the same right to life as any other human being and the taking of that life is exactly what abortion does.”

Additionally, as LifeNews previously reported, 84% of Americans want significant restrictions on abortion, and would limit abortions to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy. This includes almost 7 in 10 (69 percent) who identify themselves as “pro-choice” who support such abortion limits and oppose late-term abortions.

In 2014, pro-lifers took over U.S. Congress; 73 abortion facilities shut down; and since 2010, states have approved 231 pro-life laws to stop abortions. Although pro-abortion advocates argue that Roe is more popular than ever, the facts prove otherwise.
