Woman Who Set Her Newborn Baby on Fire, Killing Her Baby, Screamed “It’s Not Mine”
The New Jersey woman under arrest and charged with murder after allegedly putting her newborn baby in the middle of the road and setting the infant on fire reportedly said during a 911 call that the baby was not hers. Witnesses tell authorities she claimed “it’s not my baby” after neighbors discovered what was happening. The baby did not survive.
Burlington County prosecutors say 22-year-old Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier is now in custody and has been charged with murder. She was jailed earlier this month in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Neighbor David Joseph found Dorvilier setting fire to the baby. Initially, when he confronted Dorvilier, he thought she was illegally burning trash in the middle of the road. He saw an object wrapped in towels and papers and Dorvilier told him that he dog had pooped in her vehicle and she was burning it.
“When Joseph went to confront the person, identified as Dorvilier, standing near a fire with can of WD-40 in her hand, he asked the 22-year-old to put the fire out. According to the statement, the 22-year-old apologized to Joseph and extinguished the flames with a water bottle,” one news report indicated. “It was at that point that it was discovered that the fire was not what Dorvilier claimed. Once the fire was out the baby began to cry from below the smoldering towels and paper and Dorvilier tried to run.”
Joseph grabbed Dorvilier and held her down as he shouted to his wife to call the police. While she was being held down, Joseph says Dorvilier said “it’s not my baby” and authorities indicate she said nothing further until her arrest.
Now, transcripts of the 911 calls indicate Dorvilier also told authorities on the call that the baby was not hers.
Dorvilier of Pemberton was told that she was ‘disgusting,’ by a horrified woman who called 911 from the scene.

Dorvilier told the woman, ‘It’s not mine, it’s not mine,’ then said, ‘I didn’t do it, I didn’t do it, I didn’t do it.’
When the baby was found, she still had the umbilical cord and placenta attached, investigators said. Prosecutors haven’t specified a motive for the killing.
It took police and paramedics more than seven minutes to arrive at the scene in Pemberton Township, Burlington County, New Jersey, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer. A dispatcher was initially unable to interpret the correct address from a frantic 911 caller, while another neighbor also reported fighting and screaming in the street before discovering the infant.
‘There’s a baby on fire,’ the first 911 caller told dispatchers.
Dorvilier’s first audible words can be heard in which she says ‘I’m sorry.’
‘You just had the baby,’ the 911 caller told Dorvilier.
‘I didn’t know,’ Dorvilier replied.
‘Well, then, who had it?’ the woman asked. ‘How could you do this? You should have dropped it off at the hospital.’
‘I’m sorry,’ Dorvilier says repeatedly.
