The Angelic Doctor, Alive and Well

Today on the Church calendar is the memorial of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Priest and Doctor of the Church.  This great saint, who lived on earth from 1225 to 1274, is now alive and well in heaven praying for us.

He is also alive and well on earth, in a different sense, so long as we continue to study, meditate on, and learn from his works.  And today brings some welcome evidence that that crucial endeavor is ongoing: the publication, by Cambridge University Press, of political philosopher J. Budziszewski’s Commentary on Thomas Aquinas’ Treatise on Law.  Here’s a link to Cambridge’s site for the book, and here is one to the Amazon site.

According to the publisher’s description, the book not only offers a line by line commentary on the Treatise on Law; it also connect’s Thomas’s arguments to contemporary disputes over the meaning of natural law.  This should be an invaluable resource.
