She Was Worried What Her Daughter Would Say Knowing She Was Conceived in Rape

Tragically, according to the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization survey, 17.7 million American women have been victims of attempted or completed rape. When a woman is raped, she is violated both physically and emotionally, and the road to recovery is usually fraught with difficulty.

Unfortunately, eleven years ago Shauna Prewitt was one of those victims and became pregnant. However, she kept her baby and describes her experience like this: “The best way I really can describe being raped, it’s really like a death. We live in a culture where children who are conceived in rape are still spoken of in terms of an animal’s child, a monster’s child. She’s wiped away my tears when she didn’t understand why I was crying and has just been with me through the darkness.”

Now she’s created a video about choosing life for her daughter. Her daughter is ten-years-old and knows about what happened. She told Shauna, “Mommy, I’m so sorry that happened to you. But at least you have me.”
