South Dakota Legislator Wants to Jail Anyone Who Sells Body Parts of Aborted Babies

In South Dakota, Rep. Fred Deutsch (R-Florence) wants to implement a stronger ban on the sale of fetal body parts. Currently, the pro-life state prohibits using aborted babies’ body parts for research; however, in the wake of the Planned Parenthood scandal, Rep. Deutsch believes the legislation needs to be updated during the 2016 session.

As LifeNews previously reported, earlier this month Planned Parenthood’s top executives were caught on camera negotiating the sale of fetal body parts from aborted babies. Specifically, their Medical Director, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, admitted that Planned Parenthood charges per-specimen for baby body parts, uses illegal partial-birth abortion procedures in order to obtain salable parts, and is aware of their own liability for doing so and takes steps to cover it up.

In a second video, Planned Parenthood’s Medical Director in California, Mary Gatter, says she’s not in it for the money but later tries to bump up the price for fetal body parts. She says, “Let me just figure out what others are getting, and if this is in the ballpark, then it’s fine, if it’s still low, then we can bump it up. I want a Lamborghini.”

The Rapid City Journal reports that Rep. Deutsch submitted legislation “that clarifies it is illegal to transact, barter or in any way engage in the sale of fetal body parts or tissues from elective abortions.” Rep. Deutsch said that his bill would do more than ban using fetal organs for research. He explained, “That’s a bit different than restricting the sale of the tissue or organ. Perhaps my bill will be considered overkill, but my intention is to make it absolutely clear selling body parts from elective abortions is illegal in SD.”

He added, “Regardless of one’s position on the issue of life verse choice, I believe most South Dakotans would agree that the sale of fetal body parts is both gruesome and revolting.” If passed, the legislation will make selling body parts from abortion a Class 6 felony with a penalty of two-years in prison and a $4,000 fine.

In 2014, a Planned Parenthood facility that did abortion referrals in Rapid City, South Dakota announced they were shutting down. Unfortunately, Planned Parenthood operates the state’s only abortion facility, located in Sioux Falls. In its announcement, officials with the abortion company told the media there is just no “need” for an abortion referral clinic in one of the state’s largest cities.

The president of American Life League, Judie Brown, said the following after the announcement about Planned Parenthood’s Rapid City closure: “Planned Parenthood’s announcement that it is closing its Rapid City, South Dakota, facility was met with great joy in our office. The pro-lifers in Rapid City were innovators in their effort against Planned Parenthood, and now the evil organization is gone.”
