Bernie Sanders Defends Planned Parenthood Funding After it Sells Aborted Baby Body Parts
Yesterday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) released a statement regarding legislation that would defund Planned Parenthood after videos surfaced showing their top executives negotiating the sale of body parts from aborted babies. However, his remarks sounded more like Planned Parenthood’s talking points than his own words.
Sen. Sanders said, “The attempt by Senate Republicans to cut off support for Planned Parenthood is an attack on women’s health. Stripping funding for Planned Parenthood would punish the 2.7 million Americans, especially low-income women, who rely on its clinics for affordable, quality health care services including cancer prevention, STI and HIV testing and general primary health care services.”
He concluded, “The current attempt to discredit Planned Parenthood is part of a long-term smear campaign by people who want to deny women in this country the right to control their own bodies.”

Sen. Sanders also told CNN Politics that Cecile Richards’ “apology” for the first Planned Parenthood video was right on target. He said, “Obviously, I think Cecile Richards apologized for the tone of that video. I think her apology was exactly right. I think that the staffer, the tone was terribly wrong.”
In a video message, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards said she’s sorry for her employee’s tone but that they do not profit from selling aborted babies. Richards was referring to Medical Director, Dr. Deborah Nucatola’s comments when she describes how she kills a baby if she wants to obtain salable organs for harvesting. She said, “We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.”
As LifeNews previously reported, Sen. Sanders is extreme on abortion and has a six-percent pro-life voting record according to National Right to Life. In the past, he’s opposed the partial birth abortion ban and supported President Obama’s radical abortion agenda. Unfortunately, Sen. Sanders is also running for President.
In April, Sen. Sanders officially launched his campaign against pro-abortion Hillary Clinton. He told the Associated Press, “People should not underestimate me. I’ve run outside of the two-party system, defeating Democrats and Republicans, taking on big-money candidates and, you know, I think the message that has resonated in Vermont is a message that can resonate all over this country. So to me, the question is whose views come closer to representing the vast majority of working people in this country. And you know what? I think my views do.”
If we are serious about moving legislation forward that will defund Planned Parenthood and end late in America, pro-lifers must work really hard to ensure that neither Sen. Sanders nor Hillary Clinton win the presidency in 2016.
