El Salvadorian pregnant woman fled to Catholic mission

A pregnant woman from El Salvador has fled to a Catholic mission in the Atlanta-area after being deported for illegally entering the US.

Claudia Mariela Jurado is seeking sanctuary with her two young children and is now living in a converted office at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Mission in Lilburn.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she said through an interpreter yesterday: “I’m afraid for my life.”

The El Salvadorian recently cut off the electronic monitoring bracelet immigration authorities had attached to her ankle and fled after she was asked to report for her removal on Friday.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) released a statement about Ms Jurado’s case and said she “has been afforded full due process in compliance with federal law and ICE policy.”
