She Used to Run a Planned Parenthood Clinic, Now She Wants Planned Parenthood De-Funded

In March 2011, former Planned Parenthood abortion clinic manager Sue Thayer filed a $28 million lawsuit against the abortion giant for fraudulently charging the taxpayer-funded Medicaid program. As LifeNews previously reported, these included billing Medicaid for abortion-related services in violation of federal law, deceptively seeking partial payments from Medicaid patients but billing Medicaid for the full amount, billing Medicaid for contraceptives without any examination or even a proper prescription, and billing Medicaid for more expensive services than those provided.

Now, in an op-ed in The Des Moines Register, Thayer argues that there are plenty of reasons to de-fund Planned Parenthood in the wake of their recent organ harvesting scandal. She worked for Planned Parenthood of the Heartland in Iowa for nearly 18-years.

Thayer writes, “No person, no business should view a woman’s body as a profit center, yet that is exactly what Planned Parenthood does. As the former director of two Planned Parenthood clinics in Iowa, I know first-hand how massive are the profits and how terrible are the costs generated by their predatory practices on women and girls. And all the while, our tax dollars have been helping them do it.

The former abortion worker also explains that there are countless other options for women’s healthcare in Iowa including a program called Family Planning Waiver, which allows women to receive free services from any provider. She explains, “…Federal records show that other federally funded health clinics in the state outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics 213 to 13.”

Here’s more about Thayer’s experience inside Planned Parenthood:

I saw tears inside these clinics. The noise of the suction machine used to rip the baby’s body out of her mother’s womb. If death has a sound, this is it. The sobbing in the abortion facility recovery room as mothers come to grips with the reality that they have just lost their child. And the awful smell of blood, death, and antiseptic all mingled together.

Pro-life Americans mourn the nearly 57 million babies’ lives that have ended this way. Unfortunately, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland participates in killing the equivalent of a kindergarten class of Iowa children every two days. I left Planned Parenthood, and I think our tax dollars should leave it, too. Planned Parenthood, which nationally made more than $127 million in excess revenue last year, can continue to raise its own money as the “non-profit” it claims to be.

I am among thousands of Americans who lament these deaths and the profits Planned Parenthood continues to make from them. Join with me in demanding that Planned Parenthood not receive another dime of taxpayer money

In September, a public opinion poll found that the majority of Iowans support de-funding Planned Parenthood and sending government funding to legitimate health care clinics instead. The survey was commissioned by the pro-life legal group Alliance Defending Freedom and found that sixty-nine percent of Iowans agree that taxpayers should not subsidize groups like Planned Parenthood.

Additionally, the poll found that sixty-four percent of Iowans believe Congress should de-fund the abortion company. In 2014, the group received more than $528 million dollars in taxpayer funding— all while killing 327,653 babies in abortion. Instead of receiving public funding, Iowans believe Planned Parenthood should use the $700 million they receive in annual revenue to operate their business.

ADF Senior Counsel Kevin Theriot explained, “Americans should not be forced to fund a billion-dollar corporation that was caught on camera negotiating the sale of baby body parts. Recently released undercover videos exposed the horrific truth about Planned Parenthood that every American should know. Our tax dollars should fund local public health clinics, not provide $500 million in corporate welfare for Planned Parenthood’s abortion and baby parts business.”

He concluded, “Government officials have a duty to investigate the illegal and unethical practices of Planned Parenthood. The evidence in these videos is clear. We urge the government to hear the American people and put an end to public subsidies that fund this organization and its barbaric practices.”
