Meryl Streep Disses the Catholic Church as "Sexist"

Here's what you have to understand. Meryl Streep said she wasn't a "feminist." It's not that she's against anything they stand for, it's some kind of stupid stand against labels or something. Insert burgeoning outrage here. In a quick effort to quell the wrath of the outragers, she goes negative on the Catholic Church and lumps the Vatican in with Saudi Arabia. Ahhhh. The outragers are pacified and go back to trolling Adam Baldwin's twitter feed. The Daily Beast:

Streep said women were also denied an equal right to power in religion. “I mean the Church is a body that excludes people,” she said. “There are two places you can’t vote in the world—in Saudi Arabia, although they are registering people supposedly, and the Vatican. That seems wrong to me.”

Firstly, the Church doesn't exclude anyone. As far as I know the doors to the Church are flung wife and open. All are invited. So there's that. But precision in language shouldn't be demanded of people who read other people's dialogue. So what she means, I'm assuming, is that women can't be priests.Interestingly, she admits herself that men and women are different and that's why she's not a "feminist." In complaining that Rotten Tomatoes doesn't have enough women reviewers, she said,

“I submit to you that men and women are not the same, they like different things. Sometimes they like the same thing but sometimes their tastes diverge. If the Tomatometer is slighted so completely to one set of tastes that drives box office in the United States, absolutely.”

So if men and women are different shouldn't they be given different responsibilities? Shouldn't they play different roles in the Church? Or is that just movie reviewers? But hey, attacking the Church always wins friends, at least temporarily, with the outragers. Even if you don't make sense. *subhead*Outragers.*subhead*
