Daily Gospel Reflection for October 10, 2015
Today’s Gospel: Luke 11:27-28
Optional Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary
In today’s Gospel, it would seem to someone who just glances over the words of Jesus that He is dismissing the importance of His Mother and the womb that bore Jesus as an embryonic infant. But recall the words of Mary in another setting from Scripture: “I am the handmaid of the Lord, be it done unto me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38)
Mary teaches us that in all our thoughts, talents, and holy actions, we ought to defer to God as the cause and provider of the grace and opportunities that we respond to. “Blessed rather are those who hear the Word of God and keep it.” And in the best of translations, Jesus didn’t dismiss anything of His deepest love and respect for His Mother; it was an additive thought which is best understood in the following words:
Those who try to love as Jesus loves, who try to think and act as Jesus acts, they are the true members of the family of God, the family of Jesus.

Pray:
Oh my Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day, for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in reparation for my sins, for the intention of the souls in Purgatory, and in particular for this month’s intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.
