The Magnificat Lenten Companion App (and a Giveaway)

I loved my Android phone. (It was a Moto X, for the record, may it rest in smartphone peace.) It was slick and handy and as smart as any tiny computer in my pocket ever will be.

And then, right on cue, it wasn’t.

When I got my non-Android phone (aka iPhone), I had some sadness.

But there was also much rejoicing, because…

THE COOL CATHOLIC APPS WERE BACK!!!

Among those cool Catholic apps, and near the top of the list, is the Magnificat app.

Way back when I was a brand-new Catholic, a parish I visited passed out the Magnificat Lenten companion. I subscribed to the magazine after that, and then, after I got an iPad, I switched over to the app subscription. And then the iPad was no more, and there was weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Though I’ve missed it, I have never subscribed again. I found other things (namely iBreviary) and kept myself busy. There’s no shortage of prayer companions, after all.

Given the reviews I do, I’ve gotten to know a person or two over on the back end of Magnificat operations, and I’ve begged for an Android app. Pleaded. Offered to help finance. (I’m only very slightly exaggerating.)

And now Lent’s breathing down my neck.

(It’s actually more like smacking me in the face and pooping on my carpet, but I digress.)

Imagine my delight, then, to realize that I can use the Magnificat Lenten Companion app this year!!!

What I love about the Lenten Companion is very similar to what I love about the monthly magazine. It has the daily Mass readings, along with Prayer for Morning, Evening, and Night.

There are also daily reflections that span the range from essays to poetry. You can use the penance service that’s included as an examination of conscience or a preparation for confession or just a handy thing for Lent.

I also love the collection of prayers that’s included and the Stations of the Cross always touches me.

And this year: there are chants. WITH AUDIO. And it is instantly calming and lovely and…wow. My suspicion that this Lent is going to suck (a suspicion I hold every. single. year.) just got easier to bear.

For $1.99, this is the easiest “HECK YEAH” since I debated what kind of coffee to order this month. :)

Want a copy of your own?

As it happens, I’m crawling out of the black hole of blog-fading to GIVE A COPY AWAY. Enter before midnight PST tomorrow and I’ll send one lucky winner the iOS code on Wednesday morning so you can start your Lent with it on your iDevice.

You’re welcome. :)

Disclaimer: I received a code and a free download of the Lenten Companion. I would have raved about it anyway, though, because I’m a BIG FAN. :)
