<p>Jacek Rejman, known as “Tanzania Jack,” fitted new fuel lines on a Piper Navajo plane with an HF radio for the journey from St. Louis to Tanzania. Chesterfield-based Wings of Hope is helping restore the plane for Rejman and Spiritan Father Pat Patten to fly to Tanzania, where it will be used as part of a medical transportation nonprofit in Arusha.

As Jacek Rejman tinkered around the cockpit, he couldn't help but show off some of the new controls retrofitted in the sleek, tan Piper Navajo, which is headed for a special mission to Tanzania this month.

The crew at Wings of Hope in Chesterfield was waiting on a gauge to be delivered before test flights could begin.

"There's a saying in Tanzania — 'pole-pole' — which means 'slowly.' And I bring Africa with me wherever I go," Rejman said with with a laugh. "It just takes a little bit of time."
