Democrats Adopt National Platform Forcing Americans to Pay for Free Abortions

While Republican adopted what has been described as the most pro-life platform ever, Democrats today approved a national platform that calls for forcing Americans to pay for free abortions for women.

The proposed Democratic Party platform this year is more extreme than it has ever been, calling for taxpayer funding of abortion and a repeal of the Hyde Amendment. The Democratic Party platform already supports legalized abortion on demand for any reason up until birth.

“We will continue to oppose — and seek to overturn — federal and state laws and policies that impede a woman’s access to abortion, including by repealing the Hyde Amendment,” it reads.

The Hyde Amendment prohibits direct taxpayer funding of most abortions and has done so since the late 1970s. Upheld by the Supreme Court, the Hyde Amendment is now a target of abortion advocates who have moved from pro-choice to pro-abortion — forcing Americans not only to accept unlimited abortions up to birth but also to pay for them.

Adoption of the platform comes on the same day as a new poll conducted by Maris University finds Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion.

“The majority of Americans in favor of abortion restrictions has been consistently around 8 in 10 for the better part of a decade,” said Barbara Carvalho, director of the Marist Poll. “Though self-identification as pro-life or pro-choice can vary substantially from year to year, the support for restrictions is quite stable.”

Taxpayer funding for abortion is opposed by 62 percent of Americans. This includes 65 percent of African-Americans, 61 percent of Latinos, and 45 percent of those who say they are pro-choice, as well as 84 percent of Republicans, 61 percent of Independents and 44 percent of Democrats.

Students for Life of America president Kristan Hawkins told LifeNews.com that the DNC platform is the most pro-abortion in history, supporting taxpayer-funded abortions and Planned Parenthood by name. She said the radical pro-abortion platform will turn off pro-life younger voters.

“The Democrats are almost comically out of touch with Millennials when it comes to abortion – it’s the sole issue where the younger generation splits with the party of the most pro-abortion nominee in history. This generation grew up with the technology that unambiguously shows the development of life in the womb and isn’t fooled by attempts to dumb down abortion by the promotion of celebrities like Lena Dunham or Miley Cyrus and her ridiculous t-shirt campaign. Millennials are the largest age group that supports a ban on abortion after 20 weeks. Only 17% agree with Hillary Clinton’s radical abortion position that dictates abortion should be legal throughout all nine months of pregnancy for any reason. And 84% believe abortion facilities should be held to the same medical standards as other outpatient facilities.

“Democrats shouldn’t be surprised when Millennials switch channels as the presidents of Planned Parenthood and NARAL promote a pro-abortion agenda at their convention this week or when some celebrity pushes the lie that women are awesome but can’t possibly continue their education or hold down a job and raise their child. Millennials aren’t going to be fooled by the nonsense spewed on abortion this week in Philadelphia.”

The radical new Democratic Party language is causing some to rethink their allegiance to the party. Democrats for Life told USA Today that it is hearing from a number of Democrats who say they cannot vote for Hillary Clinton because of the new pro-abortion position. In January, Clinton promised Planned Parenthood that she will make every effort to overturn Hyde and force taxpayers to fund abortions, if elected.

“This platform’s language just says (to abortion opponents) you are no longer welcome,” said Kristen Day, executive director of Democrats for Life. “This has been the general message pro-life Democrats are receiving across the country.”

Carol Crossed is one of them. The retired educator from Rochester, New York, told USA Today that she believes the abortion giant Planned Parenthood is throwing its weight around with the party and Clinton.

“She’s totally showed her cards to be bought by an industry that is actually named in the platform,” Crossed said.

The Democratic Party is “pro-choice because they don’t want to be infringing their opinion on others,” she continued. “Now their platform says if you don’t like abortions, too bad — you are going to pay for it anyway.

Some Democratic legislators also are pushing back against the radical new proposal. U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, called the language “crazy”; and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey Jr., D-Pennsylvania, wrote a letter to the party platform committee criticizing the new position.

Even the editorial board of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, which supports legalized abortion, called out the Democratic Party for its “extremism on abortion.”

The party’s newly proposed stance on taxpayer funding of abortion could hurt them this election, because it is so radical and out of touch with most Americans.

Through the years, polls have consistently found that most Americans do not support taxpayer funding of abortions or late-term abortions. A new Marist poll found that more than two-thirds of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion, including a majority of women and a majority of people who identify as pro-choice.
