Democrats Talk About “Children” at Their Convention, But Completely Forget Unborn Children

Like every other political convention, the opening night of the Democrats’ national convention in Philadelphia was a mixture of good, bad, and indifferent speeches. Clearly at the top of the list was First Lady Michelle Obama whose remarks the media swooned over.

To be even clearer, cable networks such as CNN and MSNBC swooned over every Democratic speaker’s utterances. The difference is—as a political speech–Mrs. Obama’s observations were first rate.

But, as a pro-lifer, I couldn’t help noticing that for all the talk about children and families and uplifting one another and pro-abortion New Jersey Sen. Corey Booker’s “Declaration of Interdependence,” one member of the human family was conspicuous by her absence: the unborn child.

Surprised? Of course not. There hasn’t been room at the Democrats’ inn for the littlest Americans for a very long, long time. In fact, they grow more and more inhospitable each and every year.

NRL News Today is running two posts (or more, depending on time) to illustrate that grim reality. Start with this: publications and special interest groups whose lust for killing is insatiable are eagerly talking about what others are more careful to minimize: in 2016 the Democrats are even more radically anti-life than ever.

Writing in the British publication The Guardian, Molly Redden is overjoyed by Hillary Clinton’s bold foray into new extremist territory. Redden recalls that when Clinton accept Planned Parenthood’s endorsement (which PPFA had never done before in a presidential primary) last January, she explicitly called for the overthrow of the Hyde Amendment.

The announcement made Clinton one of the only modern presidential candidates to oppose the nearly 40-year-old ban on federal abortion coverage. And this week, the rest of her party will follow suit. In what is the first significant shift to the party line on abortion in decades, Democrats will approve a platform at the Democratic national convention in Philadelphia that explicitly calls for elected officials to overturn Hyde.

Why is that so important? Over a million people are alive today because of this limitation on taxpayer funding of abortion, for one thing. For another thing, it is the gateway to pro-abortion Nirvana: eliminating the political landscape not only of all limitations on abortion but also making us pay for abortions.

Never forget that Clinton is no mere fellow traveler. Clinton is a core member—a leader– of the International abortion advocacy movement, whose goal it is to spread the abortion virus across the globe. Which is why Clinton and her party are willing to take a position with which a huge majority of the American people disagree—including a considerable number of self-described ”pro-choicers.”

But “[P]roponents of repealing Hyde cite polls which show that public opinion is creeping in their favor,” Redden writes. No, it’s not, but mere facts are not allowed to get in the way.

Clinton is often criticized for being mechanical and overly cautious. Watch the video of a deliriously happy Clinton accepting PPFA’s endorsement and insisting with gusto that the Hyde Amendment and you will see where real fanaticism can lead you.
