Diocesan employees moving to parishes

ALLOUEZ — Two members of the diocesan curia will be leaving in the next month to take new positions in parish ministry.

Mary Ann Otto

Mary Ann Otto has served for nine years as Stewardship and Special Projects director in the Department of Stewardship and Pastoral Services. She will be leaving on Aug. 15 to become pastoral minister at St. Mary Parish and St. Joseph Parish in Appleton. She will work in many areas, including adult formation and young adult formation, ALPHA and CHRP (Christ Renews His Parish).

“What a joy it has been collaborating with the different departments and leading the many meetings it took over the years to make (Leadership) Convocation a reality,” Otto said. “Praying together, laughing together, brainstorming and problem solving together brought the Leadership Convocation to life. I am also humbled and appreciative for being able to attend conferences and represent our diocese on the national level. It has been an incredible resource for my ministry.”

Franciscan Sr. Jacqueline Spaniola, assistant director of Religious Education/Youth Ministry, has been missioned to St. Anne Parish, in Chassell, Mich., in the Upper Peninsula (Diocese of Marquette), effective Aug. 1.

She will be pastoral associate at St. Anne and St. Albert Parish, Houghton. St. Albert is near the Michigan Technological University campus and ministers to the students there. Sr. Jackie will be involved with RCIA, adult education, FOCCUS (prep for marriage), spiritual direction and assisting the pastor (who is also the Vocations director for the Diocese of Marquette). Sr. Jackie, a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity, based in Manitowoc, joined the Department of Education in August of 2011.

“It has been an honor to serve the people in the Green Bay Diocese,” she told The Compass, “and to share in the faith journey of so many people who are serving God’s people in so many different roles.”

Dr. Joe Bound, diocesan director of education, said, “Sr. Jackie has led the process of revising our religion certification program, facilitating the process in designating appropriate religion textbooks and resources for our schools and parish religious education programs, mentoring catechetical leaders, making our online certification courses a reality, conducting various courses and in-services and implementing the religious education accreditation program, the only program of its kind in the country. All of her work has been done with a tremendous amount of dedication and attention to detail.”

Maria Schuette, diocesan director of religious education and youth ministry, noted that Sr. Jackie “devoted her days, nights and weekends to serving the diocese and I am honored to have worked alongside of her.”
