St. Norbert professor to lead solar eclipse activities

If you are interested in the solar eclipse, St. Norbert College released the following information about  activities offered on Monday:

Michael Olson, assistant professor of physics at St. Norbert College, will take part in the rare solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21, from noon to 2 p.m. on the CityDeck, 301 North Washington St. in downtown Green Bay. Olson will lead educational eclipse trivia and other activities.

Olson works in the summer at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. He gives presentations to national conferences and is invited to present his “Sandwich of Nails” and physics demonstration shows around the country as part of science workshops for elementary and middle school children, as well as at community celebrations.

Before joining the St. Norbert College faculty, Olson was the Kent State University Planetarium operator, and conducted planetarium shows for university physics and astronomy students as well as the public.

NASA-approved solar viewers will be offered to the first 100 people who attend the event at noon. 1:16 p.m. is the best time to view the solar eclipse in Green Bay.
