Planned Parenthood is Spending $500,000 to Create an Army of Pro-Abortion Activists

Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups have long envied the grassroots power of the pro-life movement.

Now, the nation’s largest abortion chain is trying to buy its own grassroots base, starting with half a million dollars.

BuzzFeed News reports Planned Parenthood just kicked off a campaign to set up 600 volunteer-led teams to promote abortion across the United States. Each team in the abortion group’s “pink army” will be located near one of its 600-plus facilities, according to the group.

Here’s more from the report:

The new organizing project, seeded with an initial $500,000, begins in September with four regional “bootcamps,” where 1,000 hand-picked volunteers will undergo intensive training, return home with new organizing tools, and form the basis of an effort that Planned Parenthood officials believe is “unlike any other than we’ve ever made.”

That’s how Planned Parenthood’s national organizing director Kelley Robinson described the decision to invest in a nationwide network led entirely by volunteers, focused on building “intersectional” local campaigns to “protect and promote” women’s health. (The $500,000 will be a joint investment made by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its linked political arm, Planned Parenthood Action Fund.)

According to the abortion group, these teams will be heavily involved in political advocacy at the local, state and national level. One pro-abortion organizer told the liberal news site that they are gearing up with “lots of pink materials, including shirts” to become a “pink army” of abortion activists.

Volunteers will be trained to organize protests and phone banks for elections, speak out at politicians’ town halls, use digital programs to promote Planned Parenthood and more, according to the report.

Planned Parenthood leader Nilofar Ganjaie, of Seattle, said their hope is to build a grassroots base and “scale up in a way that we haven’t been able to do.”

The abortion chain gets a lot of support from some of the richest, most privileged Americans, but it lacks support among the general public. This was evident last November when Planned Parenthood poured more than $30 million into supporting pro-abortion candidates in the general election, but suffered heavy losses.

Planned Parenthood’s own reports show how it also has lost trust among its patients. Despite receiving huge amounts of taxpayer funding, the abortion chain’s patient numbers have been dropping steadily. It boasted 3 million patients five years ago, but its most recent annual report says it saw 2.4 million patients in 2015.

Robinson said Planned Parenthood leaders decided that they needed to try a new strategy after their candidates lost so many races in November.

“It was time for us to start going back to our block and tackle, meaning it was time to go back to the basics — the things that we’ve always done well to survive in the last 100 years,” she said. “We started thinking about our grassroots first.”

The abortion chain’s leaders said they have been encouraged by the increase in donations and volunteers since the election. The abortion business, which calls itself a non-profit organization, said it added about 226,000 volunteers in the past nine months and hopes to have 1 million volunteers in total.

Planned Parenthood continued to maintain its status as the largest abortion provider in the United States. The abortion group performed 328,348 abortions on unborn babies in 2015, and receives approximately half a billion taxpayer dollars every year.

Meanwhile, U.S. Congress is working on plans to defund the abortion chain of its taxpayer funding and pass new protections for unborn babies.
