Because in a very real way liturgical orthodoxy cannot be separated from doctrinal orthodoxy. Lex Orendi, Lex Credendi, the law of prayer is the law of belief. The liturgy is the highest prayer of the Church. When we tinker with it, when we make changes to it, that do no correspond with what we believe in an effort to be more appealing, more entertaining, in my mind, more protestant, we begin to believe like protestants. Everybody goes to heaven, Jesus just wanted us to be nice, I don't have to go to Church to be a good person, it's all the same, and so on. The world has become significantly pagan and heretical, as a result of our failure to be truly Catholic, utterly, and un-apologetically Catholic. That begins with the Roman liturgy. Nothing sets us apart from the pagans and the heretics like truly beautiful and not banal liturgy. Reducing the supernatural to the natural is not compelling to people who are naturally looking for the supernatural. Everyone of us needs to learn why the liturgy needs to be purified and then begin to demand from our priests that we be given that which truly conveys liturgical orthodoxy, that which is truly good, beautiful, and true. God demands no less of us when it comes to offering our worship to Him. He went through this with the Israelites when he freed them from slavery and He does not tend to tolerate such nonsense.
