Abortion Activists: Quit “Stigmatizing” Women Who Kill Multiple Babies in Abortions

On the heels of a new study, the pro-abortion blog Rewire claimed there is nothing “negative” about a woman aborting multiple unborn babies.

Research published in August by the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute found that about 45 percent of abortion patients in the United States have had at least one prior abortion.

Rewire’s Steph Herold wrote that women who have multiple abortions often feel stigmatized by society, but they should not.

“… there’s no reason to consider multiple abortions a negative health event,” Herold claimed.

Except that multiple abortions come with greater health risks to the woman. Or that several of the woman’s living, unique unborn babies were killed.

According to the study, women in their 30s are most likely to have had multiple abortions. Black women also were more likely to have multiple abortions at 54 percent, compared to the average 45 percent.

Here’s more from Herold’s pro-abortion report:

Community-level abortion stigma also affects how and why Black women access abortion care: “There’s a stigma in the Black community about being a single parent, being a Baby mama,” Kenya, a 42-year old abortion clinic employee in Texas, told Rewire. “For me, I didn’t want to be a statistic. I didn’t want to be a single mother with a lot of children. I [had a baby] once and didn’t want that to be my life.”

Kenya works at the clinic where she had her abortions, and realized that she was keeping her personal experiences from her patients for fear of their reaction. “I started to ask myself why I wouldn’t say that I’ve had multiple abortions aloud. Maybe it can help someone else not feel bad about their choices or not feel judged. There’s nothing to be ashamed about. Multiple abortions are necessary, and a lot of women do it.”

Interestingly, though, the pro-abortion blog seemed to contradict itself about abortions in the black community. The writer blamed racism and sexism for the high abortion rate in the black community but also advocated for more abortions for black women.

Herold wrote:

The researchers discovered that more than half (54 percent) of Black women in the study reported having multiple abortions, a higher percentage than white women or Latinas. This is likely due to the compounding negative effects of racism and sexism on Black women’s health, which is also reflected in unjust policies like the Hyde Amendment. That amendment is attached as a rider to the federal budget every year and has the effect of disproportionately denying health care to women of color.

Herold seemed to imply that there’s a problem with the fact that black women have more abortions than women of other races. But if abortions are good, and there’s nothing negative about multiple abortions, shouldn’t the high abortion rate be a good thing in Herold’s mind? Don’t these numbers show that abortion activists are succeeding in helping black women access abortion?

The contradictions continued at the end of the paragraph when Herold claimed our country needs to force taxpayers to pay for abortions so women – especially black women – can have even more abortions.

The truth is that multiple abortions do have a negative impact. They destroy unborn babies’ lives and put women at greater risk of physical and emotional health problems.

Several studies found that women who had multiple abortions have an increased risk of preterm birth and low-birthweight babies in a subsequent pregnancy. They also are at a greater risk of breast cancer, anxiety, depression, suicidal tendencies, future miscarriages, infertility and even death.

An abortion is not just the basic medical procedure that abortion activists make it out to be. It is a life-changing, emotional and life-destroying act that kills unborn babies and has the potential to scar their mothers for the rest of their lives.
