Christian Parents With Five Children Already Welcome Conjoined Twins After Doctors Suggested Abortion

Some doctors may not have seen the value of little Elijah and Isaac Kroeger’s lives in the womb, but their parents certainly did.

Repeatedly, doctors urged the conjoined twins’ parents to consider aborting them. And repeatedly, Heather and Jason Kroeger of North Carolina refused.

“To us it wasn’t an option. These children are our children they were given to us for a purpose… to protect them. Abortion was never an option,” their father told Fox 19 News.

The Daily Mail reports the twins were born this month at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Ohio, about a month before their due date. Because of the way they are conjoined, the brothers cannot be separated, according to the report.

The Kroegers said they were excited when they learned that they were pregnant again. The high school sweethearts had five children already, and they said they were happily expecting child number six. Then, an ultrasound revealed that Heather was carrying two babies – making them a family of nine. But the ultrasound also brought troubling news: The twins were conjoined.

As Christians, the Kroegers said they would never consider aborting an unborn baby. The family said they have been trusting in God for their twins’ future.

The newborn twins will have some “speed bumps to overcome” in life, but they are doing better than expected already, their father said.

Friends of the Kroegers set up a GoFundMe page to help the family with their medical expenses.

“It is no surprise that they have been advised several times throughout the pregnancy to abort these two little precious souls,” the friends wrote on the fundraiser page. “They rejected such a thought right out of hand. We are asking you to consider giving a donation to help this young couple who has been faithful to God’s plan for life and love.”

So often in today’s society, abortion is suggested for unborn babies who have health problems. Unborn babies with Down syndrome and fatal disorders are aborted at extremely high rates in the United States and many European countries; but some doctors even recommend abortion for minor, repairable conditions such as cleft lips.

Families like the Kroegers help to counter this discrimination by demonstrating how their children – and every child — deserve a chance at life, no matter how small they are or what abilities they have. Because every human life, from conception to natural death, is valuable.
