Today’s Gospel: Luke 12:8-12

Saint Francis is credited with the saying, “Preach the Gospel always, sometimes use words.” When we preach the Gospel we acknowledge Jesus who is the Good News. But actions speak louder than words. Our refusal to participate in a gossip session with co-workers acknowledges that we are a follower of Christ just as our harsh actions can show how little we value our relationship with Jesus.

Pausing, blessing ourselves and saying a quiet prayer in public before we eat our meal, attending Mass on our lunch hour on a Holy Day and our presence there witnessed by our co-workers, these actions speak volumes.

And then there are times when it is necessary to use words to defend Church teaching on those hard issues that cause the most frequent conflict, abortion, euthanasia, purity. At these times we should make a quick call for help to the Holy Spirit and our trust in Him to give us not only the words but the strength to utter them.

We do not need to go looking for opportunities to acknowledge Jesus; they will come to us when we least expect them. We should endeavor to be open to receive the Spirit’s counsel.

Opportunities to acknowledge Jesus will come to us when we least expect them. By @DennisPMcGeehanClick To Tweet

Ponder:

Do my actions and words truly proclaim that I am a believer of Jesus Christ?

Pray:

Holy Spirit, open my heart and soul so that I may hear Your counsel. Give me Your strength to boldly proclaim that Jesus is Lord.
