Congratulations to Monsignor Michael Schmitz

Many of you know Monsignor R. Michael Schmitz, Vicar General of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, or have heard some of his excellent sermons and conferences. But perhaps you didn't know that Monsignor is a canon lawyer of great repute as well.  I'm a little late in doing so, but I wanted to post the great news that Monsignor Schmitz successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the Pontifical Lateran University on October 29, and was awarded his doctorate summa cum laude. His thesis was titled The Essential Structure of the Canonical Life, addressing the legal foundation of the particular charism of the canons of the Institute, who are called to live a common life in community as secular canons. No pressure!Present along with the superiors of the Institute were also Cardinal Burke, no mean canon lawyer himself, and other dignitaries identified at the ICRSP link below.  The photos herein are from the French language story at the ICRSP website.  The website allows you to enlarge these with much better resolution.Congratulations, Monsignor Schmitz!
