Today’s Gospel: Luke 18:35-43

It was an ordinary day in Jericho in the life of a beggar. He was begging for food but would soon be begging for mercy. He could not see but he could hear. He had heard about this Jesus of Nazareth and was completely dependent on the crowd surrounding him. He had great courage and understood Jesus’ mission of mercy. You just have to ask. You just have to SHOUT! He was persistent. There is a time for everything; a time to be silent and a time to shout. He had a need that could not be silenced and a faith that believed in miracles. In great compassion, Jesus could “see” the needs of the blind beggar. Jesus actually spoke to him. If he was blind, his hearing was acute. What did he hear in Jesus’ voice? Did he hear love? Jesus spoke to this man, asking what was obvious. God knows our needs. There are times when we need to ask anyway. How many blessings are not received simply because we do not ask? “What do you want me to do for you?” He simply stated his need. He said please. He had no expectation other than a hope that if he asked politely and humbly he might receive. Immediately. He had waited a lifetime. He gave glory to God first. Please and thank you are simple words demonstrating the holiness of this humble man and are models for us this day.

Ponder:

Are there areas of my life where I am blind and need to cry out for God’s abundant mercy?

Pray:

Lord, let me see Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly, and follow Thee more nearly. Amen.
