Catholic News Live shutting down after 9 years

Nine years ago, I started Catholic News Live with the hope to create a great central resource for the latest Catholic news on mobile devices, Twitter, and Facebook.

There were always small roadblocks like Facebook disallowing the type of automated posting Catholic News Live used to post news stories on Facebook. And Twitter's updated API requiring a rewrite of the Twitter integration.

CNL 1.4 App update released for Android

After over a year without updates, I finally had some time today to fix a few bugs with Catholic News Live's Android app, CNL. This new version (1.4) is a free update, and includes:

Catholic News Live is Responsive

It's been a while since I've spent time working on Catholic News Live; one of the best things about this site is that it can keep on running almost without intervention, as it focuses on aggregating all the best Catholic news sources, then getting you to the original article as quickly as possible.

One thing I've been meaning to do for a few years now is make the website (this site) responsive, meaning it works great on mobile devices, tablets, and desktop computers.

App Revisions; Biggest Month So Far!

Just an update to let you know that we're slowly working on rebuilding parts of the iPhone app (and soon, the Android version as well), making things work much better in iOS 6. The app interface has remained more or less unchanged since we built the first version, and there are a few things that have never looked as good as I'd hoped.

Hopefully we'll be able to push out an update by spring!

Catholic News Live App for iOS Updated to Support iPhone 5

Version 1.0.4 of the Catholic News Live App for iOS was just released. It contains some bugfixes, and makes the app work great on the new iPhone 5 and iOS 6. Also, this version of the app requires iOS 4.3 or later (older versions of the app worked on iOS 3), and brings a few other little optimizations.

Catholic News Live website redesigned

Catholic News Live has a completely redesigned website!

The website, at http://catholicnewslive.com/, is much faster than the old website, features a dedicated Map page to show Catholic news on a world map, and also updates the news on a much faster schedule.

News used to take up to two hours to show up on the website, and it should now show up less than half an hour from the time the story is posted.

Catholic News Live available for Android and iOS

The Catholic News Live mobile app is now available for both Android phones and tablets. The freshest source of Catholic News on a mobile device is now available for Android phones, iPhones, iPads, and almost any device.

Catholic News Live is a website and mobile app that allows Catholics to stay informed of all the latest news around the world, and is updated continuously throughout the day.

Catholic News Live on Google+

We just joined Google+!

Visit Catholic News Live's page on Google+ and add it to your circles to be informed of the latest Catholic news.

Currently, Google doesn't allow automated posting to a page, so updates will be quite sparse compared to Twitter and Facebook, but that will hopefully change soon.

Also stay tuned for news regarding the CNL mobile app for Android!
