Man Comes Back to Life After Being Pronounced Clinically Dead for 45 Minutes

A man who doctors pronounced clinically dead came back to life 45 minutes after his death had been called. Brian Miller’s coming back to life is a reminder of the problems of declaring patients dead too quickly and either removing their life support or stopping further medical treatment.

brianmillerThis is also a cautionary tale for patients who are organ donors, where doctors may too quickly began cutting up patients who are not really dead to begin harvesting their organs for donations. These kinds of cases have happened before, as supposedly “brain dead” patients have come back to life just before having their vital organs taken from them after prematurely being declared dead.

Fox News tells Miller’s story:

Miller suffered a massive heart attack and seemed fine until the next day when he began experiencing Ventricular Fibrillation, which is a usually deadly fluttering pattern of the heart where blood is no longer being pumped through the body. Without treatment, the condition can kill a person in just a few minutes.

After about 45 minutes of Miller being without a heart-rate, pulse, blood pressure or oxygen to his brain, he miraculously awoke with a regular heartbeat and without any damage to his brain.

Miller said he had beautiful visions of the after-life as he walked toward heaven, which included both flowers and light. He said he had a loved one who had recently passed tell him he needed to go back.
