St. Louis priest recalls serving John Paul II at Mass, now leads a pilgrimage for his canonization

Father Christopher Martin, center, was a 20-year-old seminarian at Cardinal Glennon College when he was chosen to serve as a candle bearer at a Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II in St. Louis in 1999. Fifteen years later, the priest is leading a pilgrimage to Rome to witness the canonizations of Blesseds John Paul II and John XXIII

Father Christopher Martin had been studying at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary for just a month when he hit the lottery of sorts. His name was among a dozen or so seminarians drawn out of a hat to serve at the Mass during Pope John Paul II's pastoral visit to St. Louis in 1999.
