Today’s Gospel: Matthew 13:44-46

Searching for something? Like those earrings that a loved one gave you to celebrate a special day? How many times have we heard the story of a wife losing her engagement ring, in sheer panic she turns the house inside out in search of the thing that holds so much meaning and memories. When she finds it, the joy she experiences is like none other. Have you ever been combing the beach for that one perfect, unbroken shell? Upon finding it, you put that precious find somewhere carefully to protect it from any harm. These are small things in comparison to the Kingdom of Heaven, but then… are we searching for this Kingdom?

The tangible things in our lives, it seems, have more of a price tag on them than that which is unseen.

A lady came into the store where I work part-time the other day; she had some fabric to be cut. She looked rather sad, so I tried to strike up some small talk as I measured and cut her fabric. She said she was in the hospital and hadn’t had any time to make these tablecloths for Easter.

“Oh, I’m glad you are out of the hospital and fit again.”

She said in a sad voice, “Well, I’m here and it’s better than the alternative.”

It is that dreaded thing called death that we must experience before we are able to see the kingdom of God. But alas, this is not true! As Christ said, “The kingdom of God is upon us!” here and now; all we need to do is trust that God is near! We need to be searching for it; “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.” (Matt 6:33)

Ponder:

Next time you are outside enjoying the gentle breeze and sunshine; remember this that the Kingdom of God is at hand….right there, right where you are, right now!

Pray:

Dear God, You are always by my side, you know me and you love me. Help me to feel your presence today and every day. Help me to experience your Kingdom, right now, in my life every day. I want to search for you and find you there always. AMEN
