Outrageous! California Reverses Abortion Decision of Two Catholic Colleges

The administration of California Governor Jerry Brown is now reversing an earlier decision to allow two Catholic universities to drop insurance coverage of elective abortions.Santa Clara University and Loyola Marymount University had been allowed to offer their employees plans that didn't cover elective abortion. The original 1975 law required health plans to cover all "medically necessary" but now, California's Department of Managed Health Care director, Michelle Rouillard, definitively stated, "Abortion is a basic health care service" and must be covered.Rouillard continues by saying, "the California Constitution prohibits health plans from discriminating against women who choose to terminate a pregnancy. Thus, all health plans must treat maternity services and legal abortion neutrally."To be clear, the state had already approved those plans that didn't cover elective abortions but now that the decision of the two Catholic colleges was publicly protested by abortion advocates, the state reversed itself and opted for abortion for all no matter what.Yet another grievous blow to religious freedom.More to come on this.*subhead*Religious freedom.*subhead*
