Soul Food: An Invitation to 31 Days in the Parables

parablesposts

Ever have one of those days where you are well into the afternoon and realize you haven’t eaten yet that day? That the day has gotten ahead of you and you have forgotten to feed yourself?

As a homeschooling mom of five and missionary with a busy maternal health care ministry in my home, this happens to me more often than it should. Sometimes I go most of the day making sure others are fed without remembering to feed myself.
I bet I am not the only mom or woman who has that tendency either.

As embarrassed as I am to admit how often I do that with real food, I blush brighter when I realize how often I do it with soul food–with prayer and time in God’s Word.

I start my day with every intention to feed my soul, but things start happening faster than I am ready. I slip out of the habit of feeding my soul in the Word and into the frantic pace of the day instead. It doesn’t deal me a deadly blow necessarily, not the first few days or even week.

But over time, if I neglect the habit of nourishing my soul, I find myself chronically grumpy, on edge, exhausted just trying to be pleasant and find joy in my home. My perspective gets fuzzy; I can’t see the gifts, the tender mercies tucked into each day. Instead, everything feels loud and raucous and chaotic, and I feel like I am drowning in it all.
If this at all sounds familiar to you, I would like to invite you to make a fresh start with me at feeding your own soul so that you can feed the others in your life well.

Let’s join together and remind ourselves to feed our souls daily with the Word of God.

In October on my blog, we’ll spend 31 days in the parables, feeding ourselves with the Word of God and renewing our commitment to a healthy prayer life.

31 Days. 6 Parables. 5 Steps.

I do hope you will join me for a month of rich, nourishing soul food. The easiest way to make sure you get the posts is to subscribe to my blog by e-mail . If you do so before the challenge begins on October 1, you’ll get a free .pdf download of six postcards with quotes from the Scriptures we will be savoring, great for marking your Bible and getting ready ahead of time. And that way, posts will arrive quietly in your inbox and you can sit and savor their goodness without all the noise when it’s best for you.
So, are you in? Want to come sit down at the table each day and make sure you are well-nourished from within so you can rise up and serve others? Please come gather with us. And don’t forget to invite a friend. Food is so much better when it is shared.
