ND Measure 1

In North Dakota we have numerous laws which provide common-sense protections for the life of the unborn and their mothers.

In adding a few carefully chosen words to our state’s constitution, Measure 1 would protect those laws from being declared “unconstitutional” by a judge who finds a right to abortion hidden in our state’s constitution. If Measure 1 fails, our law against parental notification for minors seeking abortions, for example, could be found “unconstitutional” by a judge. The language of Measure 1 provides a legal framework to defend the laws we’ve already passed.

People should know that the opposition to Measure 1 is 95% funded by out-of-state Planned Parenthood organizations. This is strange because they are purchasing television ads to tell us that Measure 1 will affect things like end-of-life care and living wills. Planned Parenthood’s business does not involve those areas. Their business is abortion. They hope to see Measure 1 fail because that could pave the way for unrestricted access to abortion in our state.

In truth, Measure 1 will not implement new restrictions on IVF, living wills, end-of-life care, or even abortion itself.

The measure has been endorsed by Senator John Hoven, Congressman Kevin Kramer, former Governor Ed Schafer, over 20 medical and assisted living centers, both of ND’s Catholic Bishops, the ND District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and many others.

Measure 1 deserves your “yes” vote, but don’t take my word for it. Before you vote, visit http://www.ndchooselife.com.
