Satanic Temple in Missouri Raises Funds for Woman to Have Abortion

We know satanists believe abortion is sacred as we have documented several times. Now, a St Louis, Missouri Satanic Temple is raising funds to get a woman an abortion.

According to sources, the Satanic Temple has raised enough money via the GoFundMe crowdsourcing website to pay for a southwest Missouri woman to travel to St. Louis for an abortion. The GoFundMe site has since been removed.

The elusive “Mary” for which the fund was created, has, with the help of the Satanists created a “Satanic Religious exemption form” which reads in part:

My body is inviolable and subject to my will alone….

As you know, state law requires a waiting period after I first receive counseling before I can undergo an abortion. I regard a waiting period as a state sanctioned attempt to discourage abortion by instilling an unnecessary burden as part of the process to obtain this legal medical procedure. The waiting period interferes with the inviolability of my body and thereby imposes an unwanted and substantial burden on my sincerely held religious beliefs.

This letter constitutes my acknowledgment that you have notified me of the state mandated waiting period, but demands that you do not abide by this obligation because the waiting period offends my sincerely held religious beliefs, which take precedent.

Lucien Graves, leader of The Satanic Temple explained their reasons:

As Satanists we believe in individual autonomy, personal choice, and the inviolability of one’s own body. Further, we believe one should be free to make one’s own decisions, uncoerced, based on the best available scientific evidence, whether or not the science comports with the religious and/or political views of others….

The waiting period is another facile and insulting attempt at making abortion services less available. With a dearth of abortion clinics, some women are made to travel a great distance for services they then have to wait three days to receive, adding the expense of accommodations and time away from work.

We created an exemption form for the waiting period that we expect Mary will deliver upon her arrival. We will seek to pursue legal action if that waiver is not respected.

“I think it’s horrible in a lot of ways to make someone have that amount of waiting period,” the woman, who asked that we not use her real name, tells Daily RFT.

Meanwhile, Lucien Greaves, the pen name/pseudonym for Doug Mesner, spokesman for The Satanic Temple, published an op-ed where he also stated:

“Recently, a member of The Satanic Temple informed us that she soon intends to present our exemption letter as she seeks an abortion in the state of Missouri. However, in Missouri, women seeking abortions are faced with a problem far more dire than that of insulting and inaccurate state propaganda: they are also required a 3-day (72 hour) waiting period for the procedure. With only one clinic in the state, those traveling a substantial distance often are forced to take significant time away from work while paying for overnight lodging. In response, we are providing an exemption from the waiting period, similar to the exemption from Informed Consent materials… We shall seek to defend our exemptions in court if they are not respected. After decades of attempting to define “religious liberty” in terms of combatting rational family planning, it’s time that the conservative religious right learns that religious liberty works the other way, too.”
