Active Shooter Hits Two Police Officers Near Planned Parenthood Abortion Business

An active shooter has shot at least two police officers and holed himself up inside a Planned Parenthood abortion business in Colorado Springs, Colorado. There’s no indication that the abortion company was the target of the shooting or any information as to why the gunman is involved in a shootout with local police in this southern Colorado city.

While a handful of vigilante extremists have used violence against either abortion clinics or the pro-life movement over the years, pro-life organizations of all stripes have vociferously condemned any and all violence in association with efforts to protect women and unborn children from abortion.

In this incident, the gunman reportedly opened fire repeatedly through windows, injuring at four people, including two police officers.

Local news media report that the shooting took place near the abortion clinic and an eyecare medial facility:

Mike Violette, executive director  of the Colorado Fraternal Order of Police, said on Twitter, “Shooter barricaded in planned parenthood & multiple victims.”

The injured police officer was shot in the hand, and a second officer was also wounded, law enforcement authorities told KKTV.

The shooter was described as a gunman in a long coat with a hunting-type hat.

“Rounds are coming through the window,” one police officer told the dispatcher on the police scanner.

Scanner traffic indicated at least two officers were down, one near a dumpster, and another taken by ambulance to a hospital. A dispatcher said one patient was wounded at Elite Vision, located an adjacent building at 3470 Centennial Blvd. A later dispatch said at four were injured and an officer was heard requesting an ambulance. Another officer indicated wounded patients were being taken to Penrose Hospital, 2222 N. Nevada Ave.

Officers from the Colorado Springs Police and the Colorado State Patrol are at the scene with guns drawn and pointed in the direction of the Planned Parenthood clinic. Multiple fire engines and ambulances were parked along Centennial Boulevard.

One officer said on his radio that the gunman shot out the back window of his cruiser as the officer tried to “get a look at him. A dispatcher said the gunman wore a long coat with a “hunting-type” hat.
