Tech Talk: The Examen App

Do you struggle with daily prayer or am I the only one? My plan, every day, is to open and close my day in prayer. To bookend it if you will. And sometimes I do and other days, not so much. For morning prayer I prefer to sit in a chair, use a real book, journal and pencil rather than use electronic stuff. It’s just way to easy for me to get sucked into other things when I use my tablet or laptop in the morning to pray. But at night, well, I like to pray in my bed, snuggled under the covers with all the lights off except the glow from my tablet.

Examen app intro screen

About a month ago I found a great new app based on St. Ignatius Loyola’s Examen. The point of the Examen is to put yourself in God’s presence, look at your day, show gratitude, ask forgiveness and plan for tomorrow.

This new app guides you through the traditional Examen but also has other options such as: Ask for Grace; Shifts in My Spirit; Gratitude; I’m Drained and more. There are thirty-four options. You can also select your text size and background music, if desired.

The app is based on Fr. Mark Thibodeaux, S. J.’s book, Reimagining the Ignatian Examen. The app is available for iOS and Android. You can find more information on the website. Or go to iTunes or Google Play, search for Reimagining the Examen and download it. You don’t even need your credit card, because the app is free!

I hope you enjoy this app as much as I do.
