Abortion Activists Push #MenForChoice Campaign, But Real Men are Pro-Life

Abortion activists were pleasantly surprised last week when the hashtag #MenForChoice became popular enough to trend on Twitter.

Revelist reports the hashtag originated with NARAL, a radical pro-abortion group that attacks pregnancy centers offering alternatives to abortion and supports unregulated abortion on demand up until birth. NARAL began the hashtag on Sept. 21 in coordination with its annual “Men for Choice, and the women who love them” event in Washington, D.C., according to the blog.

But the evidence of so many men celebrating abortion is not a good sign – not for unborn babies or for women, conservative writer Matt Walsh wrote at The Blaze this week.

Walsh wrote:

This is what makes effeminate pro-abortion men so sickening. They not only endorse the murder of the unborn, but they try to foist the moral burden onto women under the guise of “empathy” and “understanding.” They leave the women to deal with the physical and psychological toll of abortion — not to mention the children, who clearly pay the highest physical price — and they get to sit off at a distance and congratulate themselves for being so gentlemanly about it.

Later, he added:

Planned Parenthood pretends to empower women, but it’s men of this sort who’ve always been the primary beneficiaries of its “services.” Men get free sex, men get an escape hatch from responsibility, men get to maintain their easy lifestyles, and men don’t have to deal with any of the physical side effects. Abortion is a gift to deadbeats, which is why deadbeats are such ardent supporters of it. And that’s to say nothing of the rapists and pedophiles who’ve always relied on the abortion industry to help them facilitate and cover up their crimes.

Walsh’s point is not new. The early feminists openly opposed abortions because they also believed that the procedure not only destroyed an unborn baby’s life but also was used to take advantage of women.

Alice Paul, a suffragette who advocated for women’s right to vote and drafted the first Equal Rights Amendment, described abortion as “the ultimate exploitation of women.” She and many of her fellow first wave feminists believed that men and society in general used abortions as an easy escape from the long-term responsibilities and resources necessary to truly help women and their children.

LifeNews often reports evidence of this occurring across the world. In May, police began investigating a horrific case in North Carolina involving a pregnant woman whose boyfriend allegedly shot her after she refused to abort their child.

The rates of domestic violence against pregnant women are high. One in six women is first abused during pregnancy, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Sometimes the abuse occurs after the woman refuses her partner’s demands to have an abortion, as it did with another Pennsylvania case in 2015.

Tragically, sometimes abuse leads women to have abortions. In studies linking domestic violence to abortion, some women reported being forced or pressured by partners into having abortions, while others believed abortion would help them escape their abusive partner.

In a 2011 study in the Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, one woman told researchers: “So when I found out I was pregnant he was like … oh go get an abortion, I don’t want no baby now and threatening me and he was trying to get [X] to come and beat me up, he was telling me he was going to stab me and slice up my face and kick the baby out of my stomach and like … it was really scary.”

Unfortunately, men also sometimes become victims of women’s “choice” to abort. Fathers who want to protect their unborn babies’ lives have no rights in America. If the mother of an unborn child wants an abortion and the father does not, he has no legal power to stop her or to save his child’s life. Roe v. Wade left the fate of an unborn baby’s life solely up to the woman – despite the fact that the man was equally involved in creating the child’s life and is equally responsible for its care after birth.

A desperate young father recently wrote a heartbreaking post online about his girlfriend’s plan to abort their baby, despite his desperate pleas for their child’s life.

“Then one day she told me that I would just have to get this baby nonsense out of my head,” the man wrote. “I cried and cried and cried, I begged her, I offered to raise the child on my own, to absolve her of any responsibility at all, financial or otherwise but she said she thought that was unfair, she didn’t want to put me in the position of being a single father.”

The #MenForChoice trend is not helpful to anyone except the abortion industry. The false notion that abortion is a “woman’s right” and “her choice” is destructive to the entire family. As Walsh concluded, “Real men are pro-life.”
