These Bible Verses Saved a Teen From Suicide After She Regretted Aborting Her Baby

Sometimes people’s most terrible, heartbreaking experiences can be turned around to make a huge impact for good.

That’s what happened with Christa March.

As a teenager, March aborted her unborn child and then nearly committed suicide because of her grief. But after God touched her life through a Bible verse, she began using her difficult experiences to help other teens.

March aborted her first child when she was just a teenager, FaithWire reports. She said she and her family experienced a lot of hurt over her abortion, and she later left to live on her own. She said she developed a pattern of bad behaviors that quickly led to depression and thoughts of suicide.

One day when she was alone in her apartment, March said her 18-year-old self pulled out a steak knife and almost cut her wrists. In the midst of her suicide attempt, she said she heard a voice reciting a Bible verse from Romans 8.

“With a steak knife to my wrist I heard a voice say to me, ‘And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death not life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord,’” March told Faithwire. The quote is a verse from Romans 8:38-39.

She said she dropped the knife and prayed to God for forgiveness.

“I give you my messed up life,” March remembered praying. “If you want it, you can have it and do whatever you want with it.”

Years later, March said God used her devastating experiences to help her start an outreach for teen moms. When she was 26, she began to realize that there was a gap in support for teen moms after they chose life for their babies. So, she began her own organization through her church in Illinois.

Her organization, Teen Mother Choices International, now provides support to young mothers and their children in five states and Canada. March’s group works with churches to link teen moms with mentors, teach job and parenting skills, and assist with costs of childcare and transportation. The organization is nearly three decades old.

“Every need a teen mother has, every resource she lacks can be met by someone within the local church,” she said. “Serving teen mothers provides churches with a wonderful opportunity to live out their faith and demonstrate the compassionate love of God.”
